Technology Love/Hate

First of all, let me say:

COCKSUCKINGMOTHERFUCKERSHITCUNTASSANDBALLS!!!!!!

Phew.  That’s better.  Sort of.

Why am I so upset?  I’m upset because I have come to expect Apple to offer products and services with extreme ease of use and simplicity.  My past experiences have basically been plug the shit in and magically play a few minutes later.  And when that doesn’t happen, it is frustrating as hell.

Well, seeing as how Apple finally released iOS 4.0 yesterday, I decided to update my iPhone 3G with the latest and greatest iPhone software.

It did not go well.

First of all, the first two downloads of the software failed.  The third time I did manage to get the software downloaded (at about 2 MB per minute, so you can imagine how long THAT took).  I have the most current OS on my mac and I had the latest iTunes already downloaded and functioning.

So I start to update my phone.

First of all, my phone won’t back up.  I mean, sometimes it takes awhile to do the whole backup thing (awhile being like 5 minutes).  Last night after 30 minutes, the backup was still in its infancy and no progress was showing on the bar.

So I stop the backup, reboot my computer and phone, and try again.  Same luck.

So THEN I start thinking “Well, my phone has been slowing down a bit– perhaps its time to perform a restore…”.  Which is what I do.

The restore operation begins– and then just sits there.  The progress bar went about 1/3 of the way across the phone, and then it just sat there.

I went to bed, and when I woke up at 4 am to take a piss, I saw that my phone was still aglow.  When I went to examine it, it was STILL in restore mode, with no movement!!

I force quitted the fucker and went back to bed.

Thank goodness I woke up early this morning.  Because I spent my early morning digging out my iPhone 1.0, trading sim cards, and reactivating my original phone.

Which is a real pisser because I’m on the fucking EDGE network and most of my apps don’t work because I don’t have the 3.0 or later software on the fucking thing.

I’ve already made a Genius Bar appointment for this evening, but I’m not optimistic.

Sure the timing would appear to not be bad, as the new iPhone is coming out in a few days and I had already planned to upgrade.  However, I am so busy this weekend that I won’t get a chance to even think about upgrading until next week sometime.

Grrrrr.  I’m not pleased.

I’m interested in seeing how Cam’s 3G handles it. Not sure he’s going to upgrade at all. The upgrade with my 3GS went quick well. Good luck. Hope you get something resolved quickly.

oh boy. An unhappy Apple camper. I hope the Genius dude helps you, or is at least some good eye candy. Do you have the 3G or 3Gs? Using wireless? And I wonder if the speed at which your wireless was/was not working made a difference? I mean, my own on a high-speed connection with the 3GS took 45 minutes….a really long time, in my opinion. Apple has definitely had its share of trouble lately and it’s not like them.

Well, mine just took forever (Over 3 hours total) but it didn’t brick my iPod

Good luck finding an iphone 4 this weekend 🙂 If you didn’t get a preorder in, you might be waiting awhile! I would try Radio Shack, nobody thinks to go there.

It seems you are not alone:

Some of the comments echo your problem. I am sure the Genius bar will be able to get your phone going again and you can sync it back to your last restore no worries. Sucks that it happened, though.

Bummer. I found the download slow but the install was zippy and good. It is, however, not a bad idea to wait a few days until the first wave of downloads is over and any problems have been found by some other sucker. (I know, I know, I did it last night too, so it’s not like I’m Mr. Patience.)

  8. MJC says:

Well that’s pooey…I just upgraded and it worked like a charm (although I have the 3GS)…took 46 minutes, but worked nonetheless…hope they can fix it for you this evening! Fingers crossed for you.

I’m going to be completely honest and tell you I don;t have clue one what the fuck any of that means…

Sorry to read about your troubles with Apple. I’ve never had a problem with their products and am sad to read of your mis-adventures. At least you’ll get a chance to stare at an Apple Store Apple Hottie – maybe. You could end up with the 18 y/o part-time college student who has run out of ProActive. 😉

As I recall, teenage boys with acne always had HUGE cocks so good luck with your lil genius. And cheer up.
