Faux Gauges

Ok- my restlessness continues and I feel like I need change. Not a big change but small changes. I’ve been trying to get another tattoo for 3 years now but the pandemic has fucked that up. Plus I’m warring with two different ink ideas at the moment so until I get that sorted….

Which brings me to gauges. Specifically “faux” gauges.

I now have a new job. A job at a company that seems to embrace diversity and differences. Or at least isn’t so conservative that I have to cover tattoos, etc. I’m fairly openly gay at this job too- no repercussions yet. So I feel more comfortable in my ability to express myself.

I also have sort of a “I don’t really like what I do so if things blow up, fuck it” attitude. I guess successfully changing jobs twice in a year has given me more confidence in that regard. Anyway.

In a way, I feel like I’m a hipster trapped in a some olds body. the things I gravitate to all align that way. Or maybe it’s another midlife crisis talking. Who knows. But as part of this, I’ve been missing my pierced ears.

I used to have captive bead piercings back in the day. I removed them when I started working for the shithole conservative company two jobs ago. So it’s been a minute since I’ve had them.

And for the past several years I’ll find myself fondling my ears and kind of wistfully missing them. But why miss them? It’s easy to get pierced! And you can always take them out if you don’t like them.

Plus, I’ve decided I really like the faux gauge look.

I like the thinner black or silver ones.

What they are: stud earrings, but they have a flat disk look on the front and back side so they look like small plugs/gauges in your earlobe. Only they aren’t. And they look solid- not like a gaping hole.

I want black ones, with a silver ring around them. Or all black. Or they could be all silver. But I really like the black ones— for the edgy statement.

But now I’m in a “piercing spiral” where I’m trying to find who can do the piercing and do they have the jewelry? If I can suss it all out, I may have piercings by this weekend.

Grrr. I’m so butch n hip n shit.
