Holiday Magic

And another series of gay Christmas concerts is in the books. And by all measures it was a successful weekend.

The twin cities gay men’s chorus presented “Bell Boys” this weekend- our annual Christmas offering, but this year partnering with a professional handbell choir. They were awesome.

We had some traditional and some non-traditional numbers, some skits, fun, and a lot of really beautiful music.

I’m happy to report my solo went well, and I received several compliments, which was very nice.

And now I can check something else of my list. This was definitely a step outside my comfort zone, but I’m glad I did it.

Another random pic from dress rehearsal.

Yes, I’m a size queen- can you tell?

The chamber ensemble that I sing in performed Laurisden’s O Magnum Mysterium, and it was very pretty all three nights. Other concert highlights included “Angel Down” an acapella version of the Gaga song to remind people of the gun violence epidemic, and “Stars” an Endsvald piece with interesting bell effects (they were using a wooden dowel around the outside of their bells much like a Tibetan singing bowl to create an ethereal sound). We even sang Bach’s Jauchzet Frolochet!

And, of course we did “Silver Bears”

To the tune of silver bells of course. What gay chorus show isn’t complete without a little nudity?

(We had a Black Friday brawl set to The Most Wonderful Time of the Year— complete with Target Lady).

Our director– yeah. I know. And no, he doesn’t forget leg day.

So, all in all a very good weekend. But I am very happy to have some time off now before we’re back at it all.

Holy cow your director. Actually, holy cow half your choir. I don’t know how you focus on the music.

Congratulations on the concert! I am glad you had a good time and a good solo.
