Beardapalooza

STATUS: I’m still growing my beard, and I just trimmed it up a bit this morning–

20110404-082723.jpg

What do we think? Yes? No? Meh??

I’m really not sure what to do with the thing. Should I give it more length? Trim it pseudostubble short? Just For Men it?

Any bearded folk out there got suggestions on trimming methods? Right now all I have are my hair clippers and a pair of scissors.

And what is the predominant thought on where the beard line should be? I think it’s supposed to follow the jaw– but what about under the chin(s)?

Help!

This length looks VERY good on you…I prefer beards to be light to full without being short as stubble or too bushy. I also think it’s a mistake to try to color or dye it. The white/silver/grey is distinguishing and looks great on you.

I tend to trim wild hairs daily and then use clippers to trim it down every other week. I’d prefer to keep it a consistent length, but given the limitations of my skill and clippers, I shave it down, let it grow for 3-4 weeks, then shave it down again. My “perfect length” is somewhere in the middle of that process. I’ve purchased “specialty” beard clippers with different clips for different lengths, but the 3 I’ve owned did not work well and stopped working all together eventually…sigh.

Like you< i sometimes play with my look…goatee, sideburns, bushier or thinner beard…all as the modd hits.

Ideally, I wan to get trimmed and shave by someone else…both because I have no skills and think I'd look much better groomed by a professional and also because there's something sensual about another men clipping and shaving and trimming you.

Or as the MOOD hits, actually…

  3. Cubby says:

Color it? Shit no! Your white chin is HOT HOT HOT.

  4. Dustin says:

You can get beard trimmers for pretty cheap now that do the work for you. Select the length you want it and your good to go. I vary between very short and a weeks worth, never going into grizzly adams hillbilly territory 🙂

I tend to start shaving about a 1/2 centimeter back from my chin jaw line and down my neck for that line.

Coloring it would be a bitch depending on how fast it grows. You’d be coloring a lot 🙂

    Personally I love it. BOING!

  6. Dirk says:

It looks great as is. Do NOT go bushy and ix-nay on the Just For Men idea.

  7. Partick says:

I’m an adherent to the belief that the beard line should not follow the jaw line beneath the chin. It should follow the natural crease between head and neck. And for the love of all that is right in the world, do not, I repeat, do not go for the neck beard.

As for the dye, one word… ROOTS. They don’t look good on truck-stop whores and they won’t look good on you either. (Did I just infer that you’re a truck-stop whore? Meh, whatevs.)

  8. Derek Chavez says:

Keep it! I’ll be right over!

  9. Rick says:

Dude – your a stallion with that beard – dont you dare “JUST FOR MEN” that stuff – you are hot the way you are – you keep it trimmed well – and if you are worried – just go to a barber – and follow the lines that they do for you – you will get one hell of a shave and also have a basis to follow on a regular basis

    FUCK THAT IS HOT!!!

  10. Zack says:

    Ditto what Rick said!

  11. D@vid says:

I’ve embraced the grays in my beard and hair. It never looks right when you color it… you wind up looking like an old Italian trying to pull off an awkward color.

I absolutely hate when people have beards and moustaches and hair is over the lip. So I keep my mouth area shorter than the rest of it… following the jaw line… and just underneath the chin. I hate shaving… so I trim maybe every 8 days… and usually shave my neck every 5 or 6….

Looks good on you as is… leave it… don’t play with it.

  12. Buddy Bear says:

That salt-and-pepper look is fantastic on you! The length is good too…. any longer and you risk looking like some mountain man. Keep it nicely groomed. Most important points: be on guard for bits of food clinging to your beard at the corners of your mouth! During those frigid Minnesota winters, watch for the formation of snotcicles. Both are a total turn-off!!

  13. anne marie in philly says:

you are HAWT HAWT HAWT just as you are! I would not change a thing! WOOFY!

  14. Glenn says:

Save the money you’d spend on coloring it. Gray is mature. (Besides, ifyou colored it everyone who knows you would know.

  15. Matt says:

Looks soooooooooo damn hot the way it is. Definitely do not color it. S&P is very distinguished and looks fabooosh on you. Coming to MN in the summer. Love to inspect it for you 😉

  16. I think it totally works.

  17. Rob says:

I use a beard trimmer it is like the big one I use for my hair but it is smaller and easier to use on a beard. They have guards so you can get a nice even trim. As far a coloring it PLEASE don’t those dyes never look natural and the grey beard looks so fucking HOT (in my opinion) and really a dark beard with slat and pepper hair just does not look right. I think it looks very hot and you should keep it. WOOF

  18. Mark in DE says:

Love the beard. DON’T color it, and keep it medium length. You look HAWT!!!

  19. Pac says:

Looking good CB! And to think I voted for the clean shave. I can’t grow a beard so I’ll defer to the others for grooming tips. But mentioning the lines reminded me of a particularly hairy frat brother. The line between his beard and chest hair was completely arbitrary. Woof!

  20. Jack says:

Very handsome. Do not go for the Vincent Price #12 color please. I like the length looks great on you.

  21. ZANE says:

Stay clear of the Just for Men….i think it sad when men or women try in vain to look younger by coloring their hair. own your age and your look and don’t give a fuck what others think about it. Find happiness in how you look, because no matter what you do some will like it and some won’t so just please yourseft and the ones who still dig it will be a better match and you won’t be working so hard to keep them interested.

  22. john in denver says:

    Nice! Let’s fuck. 😉

  23. Kris says:

Aww, it looks fine. Loooove your glasses too, along with the other ones you’ve had on.
