First Days and such

Well, I started at my new job on Monday. And it was ok.

It was crazy— Monday felt like training was a shotgun blast to the face. TODST was better, a more controlled overload. But y’all. I’m basically learning how to construct microchips.

It’s intense.

Overall things are ok here. No huge red flags so far. Diversity seems to be ok. No crazy right-wingers in sight yet. Although there are some quirks. Like everyone just speaks to me like I know exactly how microchips work and how they’re built.

Oh- and then there’s the whole time card thing. Like, everyone in the company has to record their hours. Even salaried people. And then turn it in weekly. I haven’t had to do that in 25 years and it’s a bit of a nose-wrinkle.

But we shall see how the rest of this plays out. The technology is fascinating.

That punch card is odd but it totally explains the vacation issue that you had. Something in the culture. But it seems like you are getting baptism by immersion. Not always easy but welcoming in its own way. GOOD FOR YOU

All microchips happen to be is loads of million or billions of transistors all switching on and off to the beat of other transistors. That and some passive components like resistor, capacitors et al.
