A New Baby

So, this past weekend I got another bicycle. Yeah yeah, I know. Like I need another one. But this one is kind of a rare find and vintage (is mid 80’s vintage now??)

This is him. A Holdsworth “Competition”.  It’s an English racing bike company, and this is there second to the top of the line.

Hand built frames.  Campagnolo front derailleur. Cinelli handlebar and neck. And a later addition of black royal gram compe 400 brakes.

It was being sold for a song, and I couldn’t pass it up. So now it’s mine.

Of course, I took it out for a bit of a “shake out” ride on Sunday and kind of screwed up the back tire. And the front stem needs tightening (and a slight derailleur adjustment is needed).

So right now the baby is with Casey (my favorite technician) at my local bike shop.  When he saw it his eyes got big and he said, “Where on earth did you get this peach??”

He gave it the once over and adjusted some small things. The headset needs adjustment, and he recommended some new tires (the original ones were a bit gnarly).  We’re gonna install some new vintage pedals too, that I ordered from eBay. I will never use the clip pedals that are on the bike now.

Overal though, it’s in great shape. I can’t wait to really ride it!
