Wow, what a busy fucking week/weekend!
It was the TCGMC 35th anniversary concert this past Saturday, so I was swamped. Rehearsals Tuesday and Thursday nights, and also one the day of the concert (it was the only time we could rehearse in the auditorium).
Plus my father and his girlfriend arrived on Friday for the concert Saturday (they stayed at my condo).
Needless to say, I’m using today as a recovery day of sorts, even though I’m at work.
The concert went very well, although I could tell the chorus was pretty tired by the end. Singing for 5 1/2 hours in one day does tend to cash out a voice. Because of this, I think the typical energy and “sparkle” of the chorus was a bit diminished.
That being said, the repertoire was really challenging and pretty “dense”, but the chorus still managed to pull it off remarkably well. And the acapella pieces I was most worried about went really decently. Even the chamber singers piece (that I didn’t really like so much) sounded really nice.
The visit with my father and his girlfriend went pretty well too. It is becoming harder and harder to entertain him as he gets older– plus I had to scoot out for a rehearsal on Saturday (but they just used that time to nap).
At least I hope that “nap” wasn’t a euphemism for fucking in my bed.
I think they enjoyed the concert– but it may have been a bit long for them. I guess I was hoping for more positive feedback, but alas…. But the weekend was more than just the concert and we still had time to drink and eat and chat and relax, so that was good. And they were on the road in good time on Sunday.
I wish I could say that I get a small break from music, but no. I have a week full of rehearsals again, and then I am singing in a special gig next weekend (a composer’s showcase concert). And then rehearsals ramp up for the next concert series.
Le sigh. At least it keeps me out of trouble.
