Christmas morning dawned grey and foggy in central Iowa. And it was about 29° and calm. Which created a perfect environment for hoar frost. (Or possibly rime– I’m not sure).
Anyway, I’d never seen it so spiky and thick! Here are a few captured pictures (using iPhone 6+):

I’ve never seen or heard of hoar frost, maybe because environmental conditions here are such that it doesn’t occur. Pretty cool though!
