And so, the sofa saga continues. Although it isn’t real drama– yet.
Btw- this is what it looks like:
By mid-afternoon on Tuesday I had not heard from Restoration Hardware concerning my couch, so I gave them a call. And after friendly call, re-delivery was approved (with a 3 man team) to get it up the stairs.
Then I got a delivery confirmation call, and the new delivery time is slated for tomorrow between 1 and 3, where I confirmed with them that this would be a stairway move.
To prepare for this, I have crawled all over my building looking for delivery paths-of-least-resistance. You would think this would be easy– but no. I’m not looking at it from a number of doorways and corners perspective.
The easiest route that I’ve found uses a side entrance where a stairwell empties from the building. It will require transporting the sofa down a sidewalk on the busy street side of the building with me waiting for them and propping open the door.
Then up the stairs. This should be relatively uneventful because the stairway is wide with a gentle spiral, yet a pain in the ass just because it’s five flights.
But then we have to exit the stairwell through a doorway and into a short hall. This is the part that worries me, because it’s the narrowest part of the journey. But the doorway IS over 33″ wide. And the ceilings are like 12+ feet.
Then back into my floor’s hall through another, similar door.
Then it’s just down the hall and into my condo.
Even though this isn’t rocket surgery and movers do this kind of shit every day, I’m still paranoid that something will go wrong. Like it’ll get stuck in a doorway. Or that we’ll get it in to my place and when they unwrap it, the sofa will be damaged. Or the wrong color.
Or I hate it.
Needless to say, I’m going to worry about this until it is a done deal and the thing is in my place.
Then I shall never (be allowed to) move.
