Suddenly and Violently Ill

Yesterday afternoon was… Interesting… for me.

Actually it was kind of scary.

We had an interview candidate in that I chaperoned around and toured and took to lunch, etc. the interview went really well and everything was going fine.

Then around 3 in the afternoon I went to take a piss, and while walking back to my office, I suddenly got a bit light headed. A bit off balance.

I sat down at my desk and within 5 minutes everything was spinning. I couldn’t focus my eyes anywhere and I couldn’t stand up. And I started sweating profusely. Like completely through my clothes.

Then the vomiting started– and wouldn’t stop.

I was just throwing up in my office trash can because I couldn’t stand up or walk anywhere.

It was bad. And more than a little scary.

My coworkers got really concerned and even stayed past their quitting time; there was even debate about calling an ambulance. And for the first time in my life I thought “I don’t know what’s happening and I really might need to go to a hospital.”

They also wanted to know if there was anyone they could call who could help me or watch over me.

And the sad part was, there wasn’t.

I ended up asking if one of them could drive me home while another followed along in order to get them back to the plant. It was a long ride home.

It was all kind of sobering… and embarrassing.

I’m better today, and back at work, but man am I tired. I’m just wiped out. And sort of depressed.

CB: Please stay home and rest up, and go to a doctor.

You do have friends who would help you in your time of need. You write about them often.

I’m glad you’re well again. That is very scary. Sounds like food poisoning. When I had it my Dr friend at the time said the timing was perfect timing, 3-4 hrs, after ingestion. Glad you seem to have been spared the explosive diarrhea. Remember lots of fluids and bland food today. hugs

You’ve just described the symptoms for two different medical conditions:
    1. Food poisoning
    2. Stroke/heart attack

Should you see a doctor………Feeling lucky?

The symptoms you describe sound like inner ear disturbance. I know of which you speak. Used to get multiple attacks of it. Not any more though as the noggin has figured out the info coming from the left side is bunk.

The only thing that would really help it is steroids.

And it was my old allergist who figured it out – he remember the ear infections I’d had as a kid. He told me we don’t get off without some after effects from scar tissue. Great. It’s 2014 – grow me a new inner ear and transplant it.

Glad you’e better today. That does sound kinda scary. Lots of rest and bland food for a few days. I hope it doesn’t happen again, but if it does, see a doctor. Take care.

  6. Yvespaul says:

Funny, same thing happened to me. Not spinning but puking and have to be closed a bathroom. Took today off. Gotta be food poisoning or something. Even though no one else seems to have been affected.

  7. oh poor baby! there are some weird-ass viruses going around that are resistant to existing drugs. please take care of yourself; we care!

  8. Zach says:

I recommend a full check up. Food poisoning aside, symptoms are those of a heart condition which can be high blood pressure and/or arrhythmya (did you sweat?). Don’t think it’s ménière’s disease or other hearing condition.

You’ve also just written an April Fool’s prank. I truly hope so. 🙂

I’m glad that you’re feeling better!

It reminds me of the time I went to take my first AIDs test in ’87. They ask me will there be anyone I can talk to if it comes back positive. I had to say no.
I’m glad you’re better. Must have been a very bad lunch?
