There I was. Just sittin’ on my sofa, mindin’ my own business, watchin’ some TV, when suddenly from outta nowhere there’s this loud BANG!

It was loud enough to startle Miss Phoebe from her nap. It sounded like something hit my window. Hard.

I didn’t think much of it at the time, until the sun started setting. That’s when I noticed this funny shadow in my roller shades. Upon closer investigation, I noticed one of my condo windows was now cracked.

It’s actually the inner pane that broke. So, not from a bird strike. And it also appears to have started at the sealed edge and had propagated down through the pane.

Well shit.

I sent the above pic to my condo folks. I’ll have to wait and see how they’re going to handle it. Since it’s part of the exterior/walls I’m hoping the association will cover it.

But at this point I could totally see them suggest that I was playing ball inside or doing something rowdy which broke it, thereby making me responsible.

Could have been a flaw in the pane, or a stress crack from settlement. Before replacing, someone should talk to the window manufacturer and/or request a building inspection in case there are bigger problems.

When I owned a condo, the bylaws specifically EXCLUDED windows.

  4. truthspew says:

It could also be temperature extremes. If the glass used isn’t up to the specs for that area then cracks will happen.

  5. brettcajun says:

Yeah, I am wondering the same thing. With the record low temps being on the outside… and it being warmer inside… maybe this crack was the result. If your window cracked, then others must be about to also

Mom always said, “Don’t paly ball in the house.” Or was that don’t play with your balls in the house.
