Blackface

What the fuck, people? All of a sudden, there are media reports of Hollywood types and A-list party goers dressing up in blackface. Seriously, people?

Did you have a brain tumor for breakfast?

Doing blackface as a white person is just not cool. Heck, I’m not sure if it’s cool if you are Black and ironically do blackface.

But all this got me thinking– is there a way you could pull off blackface as a Cracker? The trick would to not be seen as racist, but as highlighting the racist aspect in an uncomfortable, yet humorous and not racist way.

I think I have a possible solution. If you dress up as a character that has a painted, non-black face, and then apply blackface over it. Such as the following:

– mime
– Oompa Loompa
– Dracula
– The Hulk
– Elmo
– Any Character from Avatar
– Smurf

See where I’m going with this? Can’t you just see a mime costume with white neck and face paint, with black paint over the top (with the white star lines at eyes)? You could then be “A Racist Mime”.

Same goes for dracula.

And dear god, how much would I laugh at someone dressed as “Mammy Smurf”?

Or a red, furry Racist Elmo??

I know that this is totally dancing on a fine line, but man does it cater to my sense of humor! And what a social commentary!

It’s like The Onion doing a costume.
