Not only has my iPhone been restored, but so has my faith in Apple. If not in their hardware, at least in their customer service.
On Friday I made a Genius appointment because my phone was giving me fits– see my previous post for details. And after some simple diagnostics, it was determined that my battery was living in the “fail” quadrant.
Naturally it was “outside the year warranty”, so I paid my $80 to have it replaced. They did it at the store in less than 45 minutes and sent me on my way.
Unfortunately, this did NOT cure things; it made them worse.
After charging all night- I still showed only 43% charge. So I followed their suggestion and restored the phone as “new”. Or I would have if my phone wouldn’t turn itself off every 5 minutes and reboot itself.
It was happening so frequently that I couldn’t even sync with iTunes– the phone wouldn’t stay on long enough!! MotherFUCKER!
I also lost my contacts and my phone was useless– so I made ANOTHER Genius appointment.
This time, it was no fuss no muss. They listened to what was happening and said, “It sounds like we need to replace it.”
And they did.
A couple signatures later, I was walking out with a brand new iPhone 5, free of charge even though it was out of warranty! Well, almost free, as I did pay for that replacement battery.
Now I know the 5 is basically discontinued because of the 5S and 5C. But still, they could have told me “Sucks to be you” and made me buy a new phone. But they didn’t.
And now I should be able to hold out until the iPhone 6.
