On Sunday in SF, I did what basically every good faggot does– I went to the Eagle for the beer bust. And it was actually a lot of fun.
At least it was the most fun that I had at any bar in SF.
I got there fairly early, and ended up actually talking to some guys! Evidently the addition of liquid courage made me loquacious. And friendly.
Oh, and BTW? Boy was the Eagle absolutely chock full of the type of men I like. Oh my damn! Beards everywhere! And fur. And shirtlessness.
And the Sisters.
*record scratch*
Yes, the beer bust (and BBQ) was being put on by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. With whom i am utterly fascinated.
You know the Sisters, right? There are always pics of them in the white, Geisha face paint, drag makeup and the crazy habits (Coifs? Whimples? Headdresses??). They do lots of charity work and fundraisers and basically represent the fun, outlandish, nun-too-serious drag that I actually like.
Anyway, they were running the event and I simply had to get pictures with them! I mean, they don’t exist in Minneapolis and I’d never seen them in person before so…
Here I am with Sister Nancy Drew Blood:
Sister Nancy Drew Blood (Real name is Ross) was awesome to me. Sings in the SF gay men’s chorus. And is like 6’5″!
Here is a better pic:
They all have fun, roller derby type pun names. Its awesome. And here is the picture taker:
This sister was a “novice”– like a sister in training. I guess the process to become one of the Sisters is a bit like pledging a fraternity mixed with becoming a nun. You start off as a novice and have a Big Sister mentor and work your way to becoming a full sister.
I had no idea.
Anyway- they were great and I was totally stoked about meeting members of the Order. It made my last evening in Dan Francisco quite memorable.
I like the Morning Sun bar because it has an early and friendly crowd and it reminds me of the Bourbon Pub in New Orleans with all the fun videos they play
Where are your shirtless pics?
Damn! How many of those Big Gulps of beer did you have? I’m glad your vacation has taken a turn for the better.
Sounds like a fun time!!
I loved it in the TV version of “Tales of the City” when Michael’s parents visit SF and see the Sisters rollerskating down the street. 🙂
