The Push Begins…

This past weekend was my last free weekend until September 7th. Le sigh.

We are closing in on the end of our drum corps season (junior corps ended this past Saturday night), and from now until Labor Day I will be in full-on corps mode.

But boy was it nice to have an unscripted weekend!

I slept in a bit, went for a run, hit the farmer’s market, got to watch the Junior drum corps finals, got boinked, cleaned house and did laundry, etc. and generally relaxed.. It was quite nice.

Now the hardest work begins. I’m sure I’ll be practicing my horn most every night when I’m not marching. And this weekend we have our last 2 shows before we head out to finals. These are basically our last chances to put up a really good score– which will then determine our performance order at prelims.

Unfortunately, all of the other corps have shows the following week, thus the chance to beat our score and knock us lower in the lineup. It really sucks, but we’ll see what happens though.

In the meantime, we have a new ending to tweak, drill to clean, music to improve, and a couple late-comers to fit into the remaining holes in our show.

Busy weeks ahead.

  1. YAYZ for getting boinked! bet that helps you play your horn better!

Your post title made me think of this from YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TC705nUfSU and then the season premiere of “The Venture Bros.” when the Monarch talks about needing to take/have a “push” (you’ll figure it out). Thanks for that.

What luck that you can get “boinked” whenever the mood strikes…..what’s your secret?

How do the neighbors feel about hearing you ‘blow your horn’ … No pun intended.
