For the past two evenings, I have seen a TV commercial for this:
Yup. A dating website catering specifically to farmers, ranchers, and other “country folk”.
At first I thought it was a joke commercial. I think I was watching FX or some channel like that and figured it was meant to be funny. But oh no. It’s serious.
Dixie Chicks serious.
Although I can’t help but snicker at the talking animal VoiceOvers with the bad video tape images:
Mr. Horse: whhhhhhherre’s Jill?
Dog: she’s real lonely, out walkin’ the corn fields again.
Boy Cow: do you think Dave will ever find his truooo love?
Girl Cow: not hangin’ out here with us, he won’t!
Then cut to split screen of lonely farmers:
Then the website promises hope of finding your perfect “country mouse” match. Sowing the seeds of love, as it were.
I can imagine it might be hard to find someone to date when you lead such an agrarian lifestyle. But a website devoted to “your hayloft or mine”? Hiw does it work? i mean, most likely their individual farms will be rather remote and far apart. How do they work out getting together? And if it does work out, how would you ever consolidate your operations?
To discourage fancified interlopers, they include the tag line “City folks just don’t get it!” And they’re right. I don’t.
Guess I’ll just stick to J-date.
