Iowa Visit

I went down to Iowa this weekend to visit my Dad. He’s doing ok, but is having some up and down times still. And since this was my only free weekend until after July 4th, I needed to go visit.

Naturally there were several outdoor chores to do– pruning/raising tree canopies, clearing dead branches, chopping up brush, raking, weeding, moving a bird house, changing lightbulbs, etc. Dad is very house-proud, you see.

We got all the chores done and what with all the rain Iowa has been getting, everything was quite lush:

Lush– yet not in full bloom. Dad’s back yard is all terraced wildflowers and shrubs and stuff, and the rain/cold spring has delayed everything.

His Koi pond looked good tho:

After yard work we went to see the new Star Trek. It was pretty good, even if it should have been called Khan: Now Even Wrathier!

I also got dad out to some greenhouses to pick up some plants that he needed for landscaping. I got some too– and sorta finished up my balcony planting. Pics of that tomorrow.

The drive home was fairly cool because the weather was so unsettled. And Iowa being, well… Iowa, it offered vistas of all the storm clouds.

Yeah, I snapped the last two while driving. At least I wasn’t texting and driving!

  1. your dad has a lovely home; I am jealous of the koi pond and the house construction.

  2. Rick says:

Your Dad’s home looks like a Frank Lloyd Wright design from the front.
    The skies looked wicked.
