I’m very concerned about this season.
Things feel so chaotic and disorganized this year. I know that’s sort of the show theme, but it shouldn’t carry over to rehearsals and management.
We are still loading and unloading horns from a trailer each rehearsal because we haven’t yet gotten all of them checked out to members yet. And horn line folks keep asking me when they can get a horn to take home and practice.
Our communications net hadn’t been firmed up yet (Facebook and the website forum). Too many folks not signed up.
Section leaders and horn sergeant have not been chosen and announced yet.
We haven’t started SmartMusic yet. Heck, we still are only working with two basic tunes– we don’t even have our opener music yet!
And we have no “winter schedule” as of last night. Granted its mostly just Wednesday evenings, but usually we have a couple of winter mini-camps (Saturdays for like 4 hours). And I also heard rumors that we were going to start learning drill in March. But when?
I’m a schedule guy. I like knowing exactly what’s coming so I can plan for it. I also take great comfort in knowing where I’m expected to be and when.
Nothing makes me more anxious than not having a well-defined schedule. Which is exactly what we don’t have.
I’m very concerned.
Do I hear the roar of a pwr btm about to take control?
I’ve never been in any type of musical group/organization where musicians didn’t bring their OWN personal instruments.
Drum corps provide marching instruments that are all silver and from the same manufacturer. All are 3 valved, bell front instruments.
I doubt every member has their own marching mellophone, baritone, euphonium, or 4 valve contra tuba (that ride up on a shoulder).
This isn’t a marching “band”.
this scene does not bode well…can you drop out now before you get frustrated?
I stand corrected.
