Joshua Tree

Yesterday I got up early and drove to Joshua Tree National Park. It is totally adjacent to Palm Springs.

Adjacent meaning 1.5 hours of driving because of the mountains.

PS is situated nicely on the valley floor, pretty much on the San Andreas fault, surrounded by mountains. Joshua Tree is the high desert and sort of up in the mountains.

And the Joshua Trees seem to grow best at a certain altitude.

Here’s one:

It was cooler up there. And windy!

I also hiked around a bit at Jumbo Rocks:

Oh, and here’s skull rock:

I felt like such a Goonie.

It’s really a different world up there. Lots of cacti and rocks and desolate land and yet life exists.

I drove and wandered and took pics until I had my fill, and then decided to head back to civilization.

On the way back to PS, I passed by their wind farm area. Evidentially the mountain pass funnels wind right down into the valley– high wind warning signs everywhere.

And my little rent-a-Yaris was being blown all over the road.

But damn, they got some wind farm action going!

It’s been an interesting and enjoyable trip. I’ve seen a new part of the country, and good experiences, and met some nice men. But I’m so ready to return to my humdrum little life in Minneapolis now.

And I really miss my kitteh.

Those rocks almost look fake, like the set from “Lost in Space”. Glad you had fun!

I remember stopping several times taking pics of the wind farm my first drive through the area.
The jumbo rock pic looks like giant feet at first glance. You look good in the desert sun CB.
