Oh August…

The sad month.

To me August always is tinged with sadness. For one thing, it’s my birthday month and my birthday always tends to be a downer. But August also represents the end of summer.

Yeah, I know that technically summer doesn’t end until September 21st or so, but for all intents and purposes, summer ends when school starts.

And school always starts again at the end of August– as the blitz of tv ads would attest.

During August, one also notices the daylight hours slipping away a bit– not enough to be completely depressing, but just enough to taint any carefree fun.

I basically have 4 weeks of drum corps left at this point too. Four more Wednesday rehearsals only. Plus some weekend stuff.

Come Labor Day, summer is over for me.

It feels like it is really flying by this year.

We certainly look at August differently. I’m thinking there’s only 10 more weeks of summer like temps left and that the shorter days bring more time to cool off at night. That’s just life here in the arm pit of the country. I know you must dread the cold and snow but it would be nice to experience four seasons.

Keep us informed re: DCA World Championships in Annapolis. Tickets aren’t cheap. I’m planning on attending the prelims on Saturday, but only if Minn. Brass is there (and it’s not storming). If you make it through to the finals on Sunday I’ll return to support you.

Dude- Minnesota Brass has made finals since the 90’s and we haven’t placed Lower than 2nd for 4 years in a row.

It’s a pretty good bet that we’ll be in finals. But I’d prefer you see prelims. We’ll need all the support that night as (because of our shitty schedule) we will most likely go on in 4th place.
