For the past three years (since I started this crazy drum corps adventure), I have not really had a 4th of July holiday.
No BBQs, no fireworks displays, no pool parties for me. Just parades.
Marching in parades.
We normally do at least two, sometimes three parades on the 4th. Yesterday we did two.
In record-breaking heat an humidity.
Yes, it reached 101 yesterday in Minneapolis– just about the time we were performing our second parade.
In black, polyester uniforms.
To say it was miserable would be an understatement.
We lost a few folks to the heat along the way, and even I was getting dizzy an feeling my vision start to fuzz at points.
After the parades, it was all about hydration and cooling off. And also about trying to get rid of a blistering headache.
I spent the rest of my fourth napping, taking care of cats, and watching ST:TNG on BBC America.
And today I’m “blissfully” back at work.
