Success!

I love orchids and can’t resist having one or two around my house. But unfortunately I usually kill them. Slowly. But if I do miraculously manage to keep one alive, it never blooms again.

Until now.

Victory is mine!

I credit finally learning how to water them appropriately (not overwatering, more misting and humidity) and repotting them in true orchid media (not that crappy moss).

It’s exciting, isn’t it?

I even have a lovely new leaf on the white one. Perhaps they like the sunny, southern exposure at Belle End.

Congratulations! I love them too, and kill them too. My grocery store has been selling a rare blue phaelenopsis; I’d buy one but they want $40 for it. Too much considering my track record.

  2. I still ❤ your steampunk light fixture.

  3. I gave up years ago. To me, the frustration and disappointment wasn’t worth the price of a new plant.

That fixture really IS quite cool!

Just out of curiosity, do you feed it or water it? By feed, I switched from Miracle Grow which did it’s job but wasn’t really balanced.

Switched to Jack’s Professional 20-20-20 mix with trace elements. Plants LOVE that.

Years ago I had a Bird of Paradise. It was just about to bloom and one of our cats, Emily was a champion plant killer. She bit the stalk right at the base and toppled it. Never to bloom!

Good for you CB. They look lovely. I’m loving your light fixture as well.
