Opening Night Jitters

Well, it’s time.

The first drum corps show of the year is tonight. (Yikes!!!)

Am I ready? Mostly. I know my shit– I just wish I was fully recovered from being sick. It would’ve been nice to have more energy to perform the show.

Is the corps ready? It’s iffy. We’re close. We’ve had quite a challenging year with all the rain and cold weather and absences rehearsal space issues, etc.

We really improved things this weekend, but we have JUST stopped using the rehearsal metronome. And we’ve only practiced getting on the field one time so…

So tonight is going to be *interesting*.

The other challenge is the field. It’s a nice, turf high school field- but that means it has high school markings.

Which are different than the college markings that drum corps use. Which is gonna fuck some folk up royally.

Needless to say, I’m quite nervous.

So I hope I can get everyone sending out good thoughts around 6:50 pm CST.

You’ll be fine. A good (neurologist) friend of mine once said that nervousness and excitement are the exact same chemical reactions in the physical body. The only difference between the two is all in the brain with (our) thought perception. So treat it as exciting—which it is!—and you’ll be fine. It really is mind over matter in this area. Go get it done for once you get in the performance zone all will be great. Rock the drum house!

    Good luck!
What if you start picturing people naked! Would that help?

Whenever I have the jitters I find a stiff one always help. Stiff drink that is.
