Guess what?
I have an orchid that has buds and is getting ready to bloom!
To most of you, this may not seem that big a deal, but to me it’s huge. Mainly because this is the FIRST orchid I’ve ever had that I’ve gotten to rebloom.
Over the years I’ve had multiple orchid plants. Most have died, in long, slow, agonizing fashion.
But each one lasted longer than the last, and the one before this I actually gave to my piano teacher in NC prior to my move.
This one I have had for well over a year, and the bloom stalks never fully died down on it, so I was hopeful.
And then I moved it from my dark apartment to my sunny condo in the dead of winter. I think the shock worked.
Now I have two bloom branches going, and the promise of more!
But I also have a yellowed leaf on the orchid– so I’m paranoid as hell. I don’t want to over-water, or starve it, or god-forbid wreck the blooms.
I just gotta keep this one alive and kicking!
Thus my blog is now officially on Orchid Watch. I will keep everyone updated with weekly status reports and pictures.
I’m sure you are all on the edge of your seat.
Or, like you, bent over it…
misting is good for orchids… to avoid overwatering… overwatering can kill it for sure…
I’m an orchid fan, too. Of the hundred or so plants I’ve owned, they’ve all croaked, despite my best efforts, hopes, research, and trials of most varieties. Good luck with this!
sounds like you have better light for it now too… they do like bright light, but not direct harsh sun…. mine have never re-bloomed as well as when first bought, but yours looks like it’s pretty happy now….
Don’t worry about the yellow leaf. Since the plant is blooming it’s doing fine.
Name each bloom branch and call them ‘my babies’. You could even take them out for dinner or something.
RE: Sean (bent over it) LOL!!!
Orchids. MAN you’re gay.
nice!
I’m just glad you didn’t talk about your rosebud.
