Yes, I saw Tron Legacy last night.
And I was as bored as the girl looks in this still from the movie.
You know it is going to be a long movie when instead of being engrossed by the action and the plot, I find myself thinking “Oooo, I LOVE that glass furniture!”
Or put another way- there is a scene early in the movie where a program doesn’t want to fight in the game grid so he leaps off a platform and is ‘derezzed’ by a giant rotating fan…
… and I envied him.
The movie was too long, the plot too convoluted, the pacing too slow, and the acting mediocre. Sure, what’s his name the “son of Flynn” is hotter than hades, but is that enough?
It sure wasn’t enough for Clash of the Shite-ans.
I think the the things that bothered me most were the overall pacing and the plot. There was a whole lotta ‘dull’ between the action sequences. Which I could have lived with had it managed to advance the story.
But the story? UGGH! Do you remember in the new Star Wars movies where they start talking about midichlorians and your eyes just kind of glazed over (while they were rolling)? Yeah, this Tron was like that.
They totally forgot the Keep It Simple, Shithead (KISS) principle.
If only they would have made it “son gets lured into the computer, has to rescue his father and fight off an evil master program who has a plan for world domination, all while racing to the exit”. THAT would’ve worked.
But no. They added buddhist beliefs and mysticism and creationism and isolinear sentient program/people, and genocide, and and and….
and what were they thinking?? This movie SO needed a good editor.
And a good rewrite.
So, if you want part of your childhood (and your soul) ‘derezzed’, then go see this movie.
P.S. Seeing it in 3-D was SO not worth it.
