Kyle and I visited the Japanese Gardens at the Como Conservatory in Saint Paul on Saturday. I took my camera to get in some practice before my Alaska trip. Most of my time was spent trying to get close up shots, and playing with exposure.
I was also big on “textures” on Saturday. Here are the results and why I like each picture:
This one, I enjoy the bright red, the crinkles on the leaf, and the texture on the stamen (stigma? penis thingy??)
I like the velvety blue color of the blossom, with the pink tinges (mimiced in the pink background flowers).
Obviously, love the color and the spiky texture– and how the light illuminates the one edge of the blossom.
The white edges against the salmon colored blossom I thought were awesome.
Kyle spotted this new leaf. I loved the color and the veiny texture. And the way the light was shining through it.
I like the colors in this shot along with the ripples of the water.
I love how dark the water is in this shot, which shows off the water lily blossoms (I think).
I like the trio of lily blossoms and the dark reflective water. And the shifting light and shadow.
And as a last shot, how fucking cute are THESE guys??
Nice pad, huh? These guys kept jumping onto the lily pads, hanging out for a bit, then jumping back into the water. It was definitely adorable overload!
