I Won! I WON!!
I won a new trombone on eBay!
Well, it’s not “new” new… Merely new to ME new.
Technically the horn was manufactured in 1956, so it’s REALLY not new. But damn if I don’t love rescuing vintage instruments.
The cool thing about this horn (it’s a Conn) is that it has a seamless, pure copper bell on it.
Evidently Conn patented an electro-copper-ion deposition method to create a uniform, pure copper crystal structure on a bell mold.
This makes the metallurgist inside me squeeee just a teeny bit!
Another cool thing about this horn is that it comes in the original case WITH the original warranty card/inspection certificate.
Squeeee squared!
I’ve actually been looking for this kind of trombone ever since the break-in.
Remember, earlier this year my storage unit was broken into and I had a trombone stolen. Ironically, it was a vintage Conn nearly identical to the one I just won.
But this new one should be better– especially if karma works in my favour.
Now I’m just anxiously awaiting it’s arrival, like an expectant father. Should be on Wednesday.
There’s always a bit of concern involved when buying things off eBay. Especially a musical instrument.
It’s like buying a car without test driving it, or even hearing the engine run.
Did the pics do the horn justice? Are the sellers honest or scheisters?? Does it need any repair work? And how good is the slide really???
Yikes!! I’m so nervous!
Wish me good trombone luck!

How special that you got a trombone that was produced during the year you were born!

Have fun playing with your ‘bone. Wishing it a well journey to you.

You won! You won! Is there something you can do to make sure the break in don’t happen again?

I’m sure my parents have my old coronet if you ever wanted it. It’s just taking up space and I’ll have to toss it when they die………

Congrats! And it sounds like it’s in good shape too. Although a rusty trombone has its appeal.

Is there any chance that the one you won wasn’t the one that was stolen?

boys – you should have seen him… the auction was ending right before true blood on sunday – he brought his computer over to my place to watch the auction end. it was christmas eve 1962 & he was 8 years old again – just waiting (strike that, salivating) for santa to arrive.
it was quite the site.
the horn is beautiful so that’s good… now hopefully it sounds good.

Lucky you! I need to pick up a new Tbone myself, though it’s probably best I stay away from the retro stuff, just for my own sake, lol

Trombone is so gay.

I’ve had very good luck with ebay purchases. I’ve bought a lot of phone gear. All came well packed, and in condition as shown.
Good luck with this one. As someone who is a repressed musician, I’m jealous.

As a fellow band geek – I share your excitement. I can’t wait to see pictures!!!!

Maybe you are actually buying back the trombone that was stolen from you.
I bought a car off of ebay. I didn’t test drive it or hear the engine; I just looked at the photos and talked to the owner on the phone.
