I quit.
July 20, 2007I officially quit my job today.
And although some days I really did feel like the sentiment on the above movie poster were extremely warranted, I am sort of distraught about turning in my two-weeks notice.
I agonize about huge decisions like this, and its been messing me up for awhile now. I haven’t been sleeping, I’ve gone off my diet on a number of occasions, I’ve been worrying about how I can manage it all, etc. And today, lets just say my bowels haven’t been right all day because I knew I was going to have to pull the trigger.
After I told my boss (he was cool with it all, knew it was coming, wished me well, blah blah blah) he went to HR with my letter. Less than 20 minutes later (more like 10), our plant manager was confronting me about my decision to leave. The speed of information where I work never ceases to amaze me… I swear it breaks several laws of physics.
I hope I made a good decision in taking this new job up in Minneapolis. Its going to be a big change and I’m going to be a freakin’ stresscase for about two months. But its a done deal and the wheels of change are in motion.
Shit have a I got a lot to do- starting with going off somewhere private to cry. Perhaps my favorite stall…

CB – On your way to Minneapolis, please stop by the Boston area. I will put you on my massage table and work the stress out of you so well, you’ll be flying on endorphins for a week.
Good luck with the new job. I’m sure you’ll do fine. Sometimes, it takes jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire to get what you need accomplished.
Suffice it to say, during the transition to Minnesota, if you need to vent, please feel free to do so on my blog – I’ll always have a place for guest blogging for you.
Oh, so you took it. I wondered. And emailed you. And left you voicemails.
You must have been in the crapper.
Congratulations!
The steps that we take in our lives that are difficult, are the steps that lead us up and further on in our paths.
Well done!
Shirley
How exciting! Think of it as a great adventure in your life. I’ve only been to the airport in Minneapolis on a layover where I sat across from “Baby Man” from the show Make Me Laugh. I understand it is wonderful there. Good luck!
it will be fine, and you will have me for whatever help you need (but you know that), and for those nights you won’t need me, you’ll have thousands of new guys to meet!!!
I totally read Shirley H’s comment as “further on in our pants.”
I didn’t realize you took the job in Mini-Noplace. Good luck! It’s just as hard to leave a job you hate as it is to leave a job you like. Transition is tough, I am sure all your bloggy buds will be rooting for you. I know I am. Keep us posted.
Congrats on the big move. I was in the same position (not that one) as you three month ago. Change is good, and it’s not bad to have Kyle as your new neighbor. Look out for him.
Good Luck!!!
I’d move to Minneapolis in a second, and summer is a great introduction. Winter there is a challenge but not as much of one as summer in Florida or Atlanta — at least for me!
Hope you like the Big Soybean! and snirt! oh and you gotta at least smell lutefisk.
I liked Mpls/St Paul well enough, but after my job vanished so some asshat exec could get his bonus and failing to find another that paid even close, I had to move on.
oh and while winters aren’t the grim horror that is popularly assumed, you’ll get at least one week of -10F, or lower.
Congrats on bravely making a move I think you really want to.
And if you’re passing through these parts, give a holler and we can do coffee (or non-coffee in my case).
there is nothing quite so satisfying as quitting your job.
